FAQ
Questions people ask before they come in.
If your question is not here, call us — we would rather answer it now than have you make a wasted trip.
Visiting us
Yes. All testing at LMC Testing Center is by appointment. Call 760-486-2225 or send a request through the contact form and we will confirm a time before you travel.
Booking also lets us prepare if several people need to be collected together (common for DNA testing), or if your test is unusual and we need to check availability first.
No — testing is by appointment, so that a trained collector and the right collection kit are ready when you arrive. Call 760-486-2225 and we will book you in, including same-week times where we have them.
Bring a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID — a driver's licence, state ID, passport or military ID.
This is the most common reason a collection cannot go ahead, so check the expiry date before you travel. For a legal chain-of-custody DNA collection, every adult participant needs their own photo ID, and a child usually needs a birth certificate.
Most visits are short. Once you are checked in, a routine collection usually takes only a few minutes; breath alcohol testing is quicker still.
Total time depends on the type of test. Because we work by appointment, we are ready for you at your booked time.
Yes. Employers, attorneys, agencies and family members regularly arrange testing on someone else's behalf.
Whoever attends still needs to bring their own valid photo ID, and results are still released only to the person or organisation authorised to receive them — which is not necessarily the person who booked it.
We accept common payment methods at the front desk, and employers with an account can be billed directly rather than paying per visit.
Because pricing depends on the specific test and panel, please call for a current price and to confirm accepted payment methods before your visit.
Testing and results
It depends on the test. Breath alcohol results are available at the time of the test. Laboratory-based results take longer, and where a Medical Review Officer review applies, that adds time.
We will give you a realistic expectation when you check in. Results are released to the authorised recipient — if an employer ordered the test, the result goes to the employer.
DOT testing applies to safety-sensitive employees covered by a U.S. Department of Transportation agency, and follows a federal procedure set out in 49 CFR Part 40 — including a specific federal form and Medical Review Officer review of non-negative results.
Non-DOT testing follows your employer's own written policy: the employer chooses the panel and the process, and a standard chain-of-custody form is used.
If you are not sure which one applies to you, bring your paperwork — it usually says. There is a full comparison on the drug testing page.
Yes. Employer accounts are a large part of what we do, covering pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up testing, plus background screening.
Setting up an account takes one conversation. See employer services for how it works.
Yes — paternity and family relationship testing, collected by painless cheek swab.
There are two versions: peace-of-mind testing for your own knowledge, and legal chain-of-custody testing where identities are verified and documented. If the result needs to be used for an official purpose, ask for the legal option and tell us when you book. See DNA testing.
That decision belongs to the court, agency or attorney involved — not to the collection site.
What we can do is perform a documented chain-of-custody collection where one is required. Ask the requesting party exactly what they need before your appointment, and tell us when you arrive.
5-panel and 10-panel tests are the most commonly requested, and DOT testing uses the panel specified by the relevant federal regulation.
Other panels and specimen types may be available. Because availability changes, please call with your requirement rather than assuming — especially if your employer has specified something unusual.
Still not sure? Bring the paperwork you were given — a form, an authorisation number, a printed order or an email — and we will identify the right test before anything is collected. If we cannot help, we will say so.
