DNA & Relationship Testing

Paternity and family relationship testing, collected by cheek swab in a private room — with a legal chain-of-custody option when the result needs to be used officially.

Choose Your Option

Two ways to test

The science is the same. What changes is how the sample is documented — and that determines whether the result can be used for an official purpose.

Option 01

Peace-of-mind testing

For your own knowledge. Identity documentation is not required in the same way, the visit is quicker, and the result is for personal use only.

  • Personal knowledge
  • Family questions
  • Faster process
  • Not for legal use

Option 02

Legal / chain-of-custody testing

Every participant's identity is verified and documented, and the sample is tracked from collection onward. This is the version used for official purposes.

  • Identity verified
  • Documented custody
  • Photo ID required
  • Court & agency use

Important. Whether a DNA result is accepted for a particular legal matter is decided by the court, agency or attorney involved — not by the collection site. If your result needs to be used officially, tell us before the appointment and ask the requesting party exactly what they need. Analysis is performed by a laboratory; LMC performs the collection and documentation.

The Collection

A cheek swab, not a needle.

DNA collection is painless and takes only a few minutes per person. Children and infants can be swabbed too.

  • Painless cheek swab — no blood draw for standard relationship testing.
  • A few minutes per person, in a private room.
  • Infants and children can be collected safely.
  • All participants should be collected together where possible.
  • Appointments recommended so everyone can be seen in one visit.

Before You Come In

What to bring

01

Photo ID for every adult

For a legal chain-of-custody collection, each adult participant needs a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. Peace-of-mind testing has lighter requirements — call to confirm.

02

Documentation for minors

A birth certificate is usually required for a child, along with ID for the parent or guardian giving consent.

03

Any paperwork you were given

If an attorney, agency or court is involved, bring the order or instructions they provided so we can match the collection to what they expect.

04

Everyone who needs testing

Book all participants for the same visit where you can. If someone cannot attend at the same time, call us and we will talk through the options.
